CITY OVERVIEW
Bequeathed with more grapevines than any other Cinque Terre village, Manarola is famous for its sweet Sciacchetrà wine. It's also awash with priceless medieval relics, supporting claims that it is the oldest of the five. The spirited locals here speak an esoteric local dialect known as Manarolese. Due to its proximity to Riomaggiore (852m away), the village is heavily trafficked, especially by Italian school parties.
It is very easy to get around Cinque Terre; it's not a large city and most hotels and beaches are a short walk from the harbor. There is a charming seaside promenade to stroll. You can also experience our car service on a bespoke sightseeing tour along the sea road to Portofino or Santa Margherita Ligure. We can arrange a Private boat service that can take you to either one of those towns.
The most impressive thing about this area is the lifestyle, so running off and "seeing the sights" probably won't be your number one priority when you plan your trip; the view from the harbor or any of the surrounding beaches is unforgettable and one could spend the entire day marveling at it.
From Cinque Terre you can visit several of the small regional towns like Portofino, Santa Margherita Ligure, Paraggi or San Fruttuoso; although you can rent a private boat at your disposal. In San Fruttuoso Bay you can try and see the sculpture of Christ of the Abyss. The easiest way to reach San Fruttuso is by sea (if weather conditions allow). You can choose a public boat or rent a Private boat. It's an unforgettable experience and definitely the best way to move around the area (our Booking Office will be glad to advise bespoke solutions). If you have sensible footwear you can also experience a walking tour there via a 90 minute hike (2.5-3 hours return).
If you have some days off, you can also visit the Acquarium on Genoa (30 km from Portofino) - the biggest one in Europe - and walk around the port streets. There are a lot of museum and historical buildings.
If shopping is on your agenda you'll happily be able to peruse the latest designs from Armani, Gucci, Pucci, Ferragamo and Zegna; if you aren't looking for runway attire, there are also several boutiques with unique items, including one with lovely Murano glass jewelry
