Varese is one of the most popular rowing courses in the world due to its central location in Europe and its consistently fair racing conditions. The local organising committee has already proven its competencies through hosting several FISA rowing regattas, as:
- 2012 European Championships
- 2013 World Rowing Master Regatta
- 2014 U23 World Rowing Championships
- 2015 & 2016 World Cup
After the attribution of the 2016 World Rowing Cup, Varese has start a big investment programme to expand the infrastructure at the venue. A new Building over 1000 sq fully accessible has been constructed from 2017 to 2019, regularly use as Training Centre for rowers; during the international event will be transformed to accommodate the press room, meeting rooms, information and accreditation center as well as several multi-purpose spaces.
In the heart of Europe, in northern Lombardy, lies the province of Varese studded with lakes of different sizes, rich of green areas, wonderfully framed by the Prealps and the Alps. It is close to Malpensa airport, the most important hub of south Europe, to the business city Milan and adjacent to Switzerland.
Varese is very attractive besides the beauty of the landscape thanks to the excellent quality of the resorts, hotels, camping sites, farmhouses, bed and breakfasts and sport facilities such as golf courses, riding schools, over 100 kilometres of cycling paths and prestigious convention centres.
Giacomo Leopardi endearingly referred to it as the “Little Versailles” of Italy. A voyage through the splendor of the 1700’s, from the hill of Belvedere to the Italian gardens and their linear hedges. Outside the city, there are plenty of opportunities to climb the surrounding steep slopes by bicycle. Start slow in Schiranna, and, in a more slow way, from the circumnavigation of Lake Varese. Here were found palafitte of primitive men, with the first remains found as far back as 1863. Some are in the museum of the Virginia Beetle, others are kept in the Civic Museum of the City of Varese, in Villa Mirabello.
By foot, just two kilometres from the Via Sacra, is the Sanctuary of the Sacro Monte, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that connects 14 chapels winding into the sky. Under the mountain, in Sant’Ambrogio, check out the magnificent Villa Toeplitz, a testament park-gardens of Varese
